![]() I've put more hours into Frackin Universe than I have into Terraria, and probably more than Minecraft too.įrackin adds in nearly as much progression as Terraria, excellent exploration with wildly varying and unique styles of planets and ores and monsters and bosses and crops and crafting mechanics. Starbound with the Frackin Universe mod is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT BALLGAME. ![]() This may all sound like I don't really recommend Starbound but what I'm really saying is I don't recommend Starbound Vanilla. I recommend skimming through the story quests as minimally as possible to complete them. Seriously, the story is so stupid and antithetical to the game itself it makes me nauseous. Because the story is amateurish cliche crap that got shoehorned so violently into a perfectly good game that it actually makes the game worse. Unlike Minecraft or Terraria, Starbound actually has a story. On the surface they make look similar but they play quite differently. People often say Terraria is a 2D Minecraft but honestly I don't think those people have really played both games. However, getting back to Starbound: If you're going to play it, look at it more as a 2D Minecraft. The progression is nowhere near as deep, mostly involving getting a new backpack that lets you survive on the next planet's higher tier of hazardous environment.įor something a bit closer to Terraria you might want to check out Planet Centauri which is still in early access. The bosses are few and far between and not very compelling at all. It is NOT Terraria even if it looks like it is. If you want an extremely casual Terraria in space, then pick the game up. Starbound has a lot of things it does an ok job of, but is not really mind blowing in any one area other than building. I haven't completed a main quest past the tutorial. It is a sandbox game that lets you play as you want. I collect all the rare weapons, cosmetic armors, and building themed bases out of the unique furnitures I find. You can create themed builds on planets, in space, and under water/lava. It has millions of randomly generated star systems with randomly generated planets on them. If you want a compelling storyline, gripping characters, action and suspense, this game may not be for you. If you like exploring and collecting things, this game is good. If you like sandbox builder games with randomly generated environments, this game is good. ![]() I spent $15 on this game back in beta, and it has given me way more enjoyment than $60 "AAA" games like Monster Hunter World or Anthem. I have hundreds of hours on the vanilla game without mods.
